30x30 Nature Challenge

Our class is super excited to participate in the David Suzuki 30x30 Nature Challenge!  The challenge is to spend 30 minutes a day in nature, for 30 days!

David is challenging every individual, workplace, or class to get out into nature.  Did you know that children today spend less time outdoors than any other generation in human history (right from his website)?  Studies show that being in nature increases creativity and problem solving abilities and can reduce stress!

Our class is going to work hard to get out and enjoy nature as much as possible.  Sometimes we'll reflect on our earth and nature during recesses but other times we'll take our learning outside.  What an interesting classroom the outdoors is, with so much to discover!  We'll take time to read, write, draw, think, and investigate outside.

Visit the link http://30x30.davidsuzuki.org/  to learn all about it!

Happy Earth Day!

We've been doing a lot of things to bring awareness to Earth Day over the last couple of weeks.  We've been researching environmental topics, writing Earth Day Haikus (will share some at a later date!) and today we got more hands on...we picked up garbage!

We focused on our school yard and picked up lots of litter that has found its way there.  Great job room 26 and thanks for your enthusiasm!

3-2-1
This week was fun.
One thing I learned was how to sketch a boy. It is hard for me.  The hardest part was his legs.
Another thing I learned was “We are One” in music.  It’s okay and it’s my favourite song from all year.
One last thing I learn was spring clothing.  It’s fun but it’s hard because I can’t remember all of it but I’ll get the hang of it.
One thing I enjoyed was gym because we played hand ball. It’s fun but I want to play shooter but we rotate.

One last thing I enjoyed was the Jets assembly because we got to go on TV but I was at the back so I did not get to go on TV.  One thing I want to get better at is my spelling.

Decorah Eagles

The Decorah Eagles are back!  And live streaming from their home in Iowa. I caught site of these little guys in Mrs. Tresoor's class and I've found the link so we'll be able to watch them grow, too!

Go Jets Go!!

We made the news!
Because at BHS we show such great team spirit in support of our Jets, CTV news came to film us in action this morning.  In this spirit, we are allowed to shout "TRUE NORTH" on play-off game days and we also have been watching and learning Ace Burpee's Jets Playoff Anthem which you can view here!

Decked out in Jets gear or white!

Woo hoo!

Baby Bats!

For a class read aloud, we read "Silverwing" by Kenneth Oppel.  We are now on the next book in the series called, "Sunwing."  These books follow a silverwing bat named Shade on many exciting adventures.  Through reading these books, we've learned a lot about bats and their habitats and their adaptations.  For example, how they use echolocation to "see" with their ears.

We've all developed an interest in bats so when I stumbled across an Australian website for a bat orphanage, I was excited.  Today we checked out the photos and video of baby bats being cared for by humans.  We decided to share the link with you all so you could share in the cuteness!  Click HERE to enjoy.
