Science Dioramas
In November, we made dioramas after researching a plant or animal that we were interested in. Last week we got to present them to the class. We found out what our subjects eat, what eats them, where they live and all about the adaptations that help them to survive.

3-2-1- Update by: Katie
This week at school
was awesome!!!!
One thing I learned
was shapes in math. We learned where sides and vertices were on the shapes. One
thing I liked about math was learning new shapes. Even learning and remembering
how much sides and vertices they have. In art we are doing snowman snapshot
art. It is so much fun! In music and choir we are practicing Christmas concert
songs. In the computer lab we are typing stories with Mrs. Dent Scarcello. They are about when I woke up I was an ANIMAL!!
In science we are sharing are dioramas. In are dioramas the grade 3s are making
a plant out of clay and grade 4s are making an animal out clay it is a lot of
fun!!!!!! And in gym we are doing racquet ball.

This week at school was
fantastic! One thing I learned was more about the book called “The Witches”.
The part the whole class is reading right now is when all these witches get
turned into mice by a boy in a hotel and now the boy is back at home, the part
the class left off was when he wanted to know how long he would live because HE
turned into a mouse. Another thing I learned was how to sketch a haunted house.
It’s a very nice house and you start off with making two big rooms, then you
make windows, doors, a roof, and some final touches. One other thing I learned
was how to play a game called “Kakooma”. It’s a big math game; you play by
making an answer with groups of numbers. One thing I enjoyed this week was
sketching a haunted house. It was fun sketching it because my house was REALLY
nice and I also liked it because I don’t really sketch haunted houses. Another
thing I enjoyed this week was playing the game “Kakooma with the whole class
because when there was an answer in the game the whole class would say it out
loud, I also enjoyed the Halloween party. I enjoyed it because I wait every
year for Halloween and then I get candy and I can party! One goal I have for
this week is to save as most candy as I can from Halloween!

Terry Fox Run! By: Rhyann
The Terry fox run!
The Terry
Fox Run is where we run for Terry. The whole school runs. Grade 4 and 5 are
helpers to run with k and 1. We ran on
Friday and it was hot that day. It was fun to run with the school. Everyone brought
in a dollar. The schools goal is $275.00. If your kid has not brought in a dollar
please bring one in. Thank you!
Rhyann!
We ran hard on Friday to support friends and family in the Terry Fox Run! |
Back to School Presentations
During the first two weeks of school, the students shared their "Me Bags." In these bags, they collected 5 things that tell the story of who they are. They collected pictures, toys, games, musical items, books, you name it! All of their items were presented to the class to let us get to know each other in a different way. We learned about our classmates' families, pets, what activities they like and places they've traveled to. It was a great way to introduce ourselves and we learned a lot of interesting details about everyone. Great job on your first presentation grade 3s and 4s. You were all so confident and well-spoken! I can't wait for future presentations in room 26!
Check out the slideshow to see the students with all their important things from their Me Bags!

All about our IBL research by: Mikaela
IBL Research
These past 10 weeks or so we
have been doing some research on regions for the grade 4s and countries for the grade 3s.
Our first/1st step was to fill out a paper with the books to see what region or what country we wanted to do!
Our first/1st step was to fill out a paper with the books to see what region or what country we wanted to do!
Our second/2nd step
was to pick what country or region we
wanted to research to do so I picked Cuba but no one else picked Cuba.
Our third/3rd step
was to do LOTS of research in our books. We took jot notes and also used Google to
find information.
Our fourth/4th step
was to write it on a big piece of paper.
We did the climate, plants and animals and important
places for the grade 3s. I don’t know about the grade 4s.
Our fifth/5th step was to type it on the
computer. We are also still doing it!
Our sixth/6th and
last step is to make our poster and presentation.
Thanks for reading my blog post!

30x30 Nature Challenge
Our class is super excited to participate in the David Suzuki 30x30 Nature Challenge! The challenge is to spend 30 minutes a day in nature, for 30 days!
David is challenging every individual, workplace, or class to get out into nature. Did you know that children today spend less time outdoors than any other generation in human history (right from his website)? Studies show that being in nature increases creativity and problem solving abilities and can reduce stress!
Our class is going to work hard to get out and enjoy nature as much as possible. Sometimes we'll reflect on our earth and nature during recesses but other times we'll take our learning outside. What an interesting classroom the outdoors is, with so much to discover! We'll take time to read, write, draw, think, and investigate outside.
Visit the link http://30x30.davidsuzuki.org/ to learn all about it!

We've been doing a lot of things to bring awareness to Earth Day over the last couple of weeks. We've been researching environmental topics, writing Earth Day Haikus (will share some at a later date!) and today we got more hands on...we picked up garbage!
We focused on our school yard and picked up lots of litter that has found its way there. Great job room 26 and thanks for your enthusiasm!

Decorah Eagles
The Decorah Eagles are back! And live streaming from their home in Iowa. I caught site of these little guys in Mrs. Tresoor's class and I've found the link so we'll be able to watch them grow, too!

We made the news!
Because at BHS we show such great team spirit in support of our Jets, CTV news came to film us in action this morning. In this spirit, we are allowed to shout "TRUE NORTH" on play-off game days and we also have been watching and learning Ace Burpee's Jets Playoff Anthem which you can view here!

Baby Bats!
For a class read aloud, we read "Silverwing" by Kenneth Oppel. We are now on the next book in the series called, "Sunwing." These books follow a silverwing bat named Shade on many exciting adventures. Through reading these books, we've learned a lot about bats and their habitats and their adaptations. For example, how they use echolocation to "see" with their ears.
We've all developed an interest in bats so when I stumbled across an Australian website for a bat orphanage, I was excited. Today we checked out the photos and video of baby bats being cared for by humans. We decided to share the link with you all so you could share in the cuteness! Click HERE to enjoy.

This week at school was good. One
thing I learned was a very new note on recorder called “C” note. I really like
that new note because it’s a note that you use only one finger with. It’s higher than the first note and I didn’t
know there were more notes with only one finger and now I do!
One other thing I learned was how
to sketch an Easter bunny. It was cute
because it was holding a basket around flowers and I really liked the whiskers!
One last thing I learned was how to find perimeter and area of a shape. Perimeter
is the measurement around a shape and area is space covering the inside
One thing I enjoyed this week was a
silver sneaker in gym. Our class earns silver sneaker by earning points by
doing well in gym and following the rules. Also every class can earn silver
sneaker! Once there are 100 points we can have silver sneaker in gym. So when
we have a gym class our whole class can go into the equipment room and choose
anything in there and play with it.
One last thing I enjoyed was
activity day that we had on Wednesday. Activity day is a day that every class
gets to go around the school with a group that the teachers choose. So then
when it starts you do activities your group map says to do. I enjoyed that
because my group got to do some “fun” activities. One goal I have for this week
is to read more books. I will do this by finding good books to read!

Guest Reader!
How lucky are we? To further celebrate I Love to Read month, we had Megan Batchelor from Global News came to read to our, and Ms. Davis' classes today! She read us two books:
They were both excellent books and I think we'd all recommend them!
Afterwards, she let us ask questions about her job at Global. We learned that she wakes up at 3:00a.m. to go to work! We also learned that she has naps during the day (we would, too!). She has lots of practicing and preparation to do before she reads the news for 3 hours every morning. She has a very interesting and fun job! I'm sure a few of us would like to have that job someday.
Thank you to Megan for coming to read to us today!!

I Love to Read
Today rooms 26 and 27 hosted our I Love to Read Assembly. We shared all the usual things at the assembly but additionally we shared some great quotes about reading and a song prepared by the 3s and 4s called "I Love to Read." I even had the chance to read the finished progressive stories to the whole school! How interesting to see how they all turned out! I think they were pretty funny and very wacky!
Our 2 MCs did a fantastic job!
We ended our assembly with a full school D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read). It was great to see everyone enjoying their books at the same time.
Great job today everyone!

book “la neige.”
One goal I have for
this week gym. I’d like to get better at curling.

3-2-1 Update: Jan 12-16 By: Sierra
This week at school
was awesome and busy.
One thing I
learned was how to read a book in French it’s called “La neige.” It was easy
but there were some hard words in the book. We got partners, my partner was
Jace.
Another
thing I learned was about Courage (Bear) and Respect (Buffalo). We also watched
a video called “Sea Wolf”, it was about a Courage and Respect. One last thing I
learned was how to sketch a panda. Everyone was really good at it, but it was hard.
One thing I
enjoyed was gym we did indoor and outdoor curling. The indoor curling was short
but fun and the outdoor curling was long and cold but it was very fun. Another
thing I enjoyed was ELA we are reading a book called “Silverwing”, it’s about a
“Silverwing” bat named Shade and they have to go to Hibernaculum and Shade is
going to meet his brothers.
One last thing I enjoyed was music. We did a song
called “Trolls”, but we didn’t learn it yet but I can’t wait! One goal I have is
to raise my hand more in French class. I will do this by next week.

Jets: Reading Takes Flight 2015
To celebrate I Love to Read month, the Jets "Reading Takes Flight" contest is upon us once again!
This year they're looking for the "Top 5" reasons why our class would like to host a Winnipeg Jets player to come and read in February.
We can submit as a class, but we can also submit as individuals for more chances to win! Please head to the Jets link by clicking here and submit an application with your parents help.
How great would it be to win this year?!
