Stonewall Quarry Park

To fit in with our Rocks and Minerals unit in science, we took a field trip to Stonewall Quarry Park.  There we learned about the rock cycle, the Ordovician Sea era, fossils and about limestone!  We spent time walking around the quarry and even got to search for fossils!
Check out our day!

Oak Hammock Marsh

We took a field trip to Oak Hammock Marsh on May 16th. We did three activities: Critter Dipping, Bannock Making and an Animal Detective walk.  It was a fabulous day and we had lots of fun!  Check out our day of learning below!

Periscopes!

Science design
In science, we made periscopes. The periscopes lets us see over things, like tall shelves and around the corners. To make them we used tape, milk cartons, mirrors and paper. We had to put the mirrors at a 45-degree angle so that we can see out it, because if it was at different angle it wouldn’t work so that’s why we put it at a 45-degree angle.

After we got popcorn, it was in a big bowl, and we ate in 10 minutes. Then I won our first bowling game. Then we had our second game. It was fun!
While we were playing, rossmere workings change the place to glow in the dark.

It was cool because my socks glowed my shoes glowed and my hat glowed Also my straw glowed

French cooking Class

French cooking class

A few weeks ago we went to the art room for our French cooking class. Everyone was SO excited to start cooking. We put on our junior aprons + hats. Then we started to make the salad! These are some of the ingredients we used: chicken, tomatoes, mint, parsley this is the ingredients we used for the dressing: lemon juice, salt, olive oil and green onions.  In French green onions are Les oignons verts, salt is Le sel and mint is La menthe. In the end some people liked the salad and some people didn’t like it, but It was very fun making it!

Science Designs: Instruments!

For term two, we studied sound in science.  We got to make our own instruments out of
recyclable materials like: Kleenex boxes, cereal boxes, containers, foil, wood, strings, and more!  Each instrument had to make two different pitches and had to have a loud and soft volume.  It was lots of fun making these!

3-2-1 Update by: Jaden

This week at school was awesome because we learned a lot.

One thing I learned was playing guard the pin dodgeball. You have this bowling pin and the other team has to throw a ball at the pin and knock it down. When you knock it down you have a free walk to go get the pin.

Another thing I learned was how to sketch a cardinal. We did not do the full sketch, we just practiced. I think I practiced good.

One last thing I learned was sound. We did it with elastic bands. If you pull it like a guitar it will make a vibration sound. We did it with a partner my partner was kaz.

One thing I enjoyed was James and the giant peach. We are almost done. I can’t wait for it to be done. I’m enjoying Ms. woods reading it.

Another thing I enjoyed was Ratatollie during lunch. We watched the movie. We started watching it 2 or 3 weeks ago.

My goal for this week is run longer in gym.

To reach my goal, I will run faster and try more.

3-2-1 Update by: Brooklyn

This week at school was fast!!! It was like I was in a time machine. It was like Monday was yesterday and now its Fri-yay.

One thing I learned was how to play guard the pin in gym. How you play: there is 2 teams and 5 pins on both sides your gaol is to hit the other teams pin or hit the other teams players. If you get hit, catch the ball, or try to dodge it to save your pin your OUT. And that’s all I have to tell you about guard the pin dodgeball.

Another thing I learned was this song bubble gum bubble gum here I’ll teach you how it goes: bubble gum bubble gum chew and blow, bubble gum bubble gum scrap your toe, bubble gum bubble gum tastes so sweet, get that bubble gum off your feet. And that’s the song to bubble gum bubble gum. One last thing I learned was how to sketch a cardinal. Mine is sooooooooo fat, Emma’s is fat too but hers is cute. We’re sketching it because it goes with our French, so when were done it were going to write on it something like this: I see a  cardinal in a tree, something like that. That’s all I can tell you about sketching a cardinal.

One thing I enjoyed was getting to do math, why I wanted to do it ? I wanted to do It because Ms.Dodds found a Sudtraction poem it goes like this: more on top no need to stop, more on the floor go next door….. and take ten more, numbers the same 0s the game. And that’s the poem. Another thing I enjoyed was having Ms.Kohut in our class. I enjoyed it because she gives us stars when we are good so we got to have extra recess. My goal for this week is keep my hands off people.

To reach my goal, I will try harder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

September Welcome

Wow, time has sure flown by already!  My usual first week welcome post is now coming in the third week of school.  We've had a busy couple of weeks in room 26 and I have to say, this group of students is pretty AWESOME.  We have a great group of hard-working, kind-hearted kids with a great sense of curiosity.  I can foresee that we're going to have a great year together!

We welcome Ms. Woods to our class this year.  She is a fifth year student teacher and we're lucky to have her.

We also welcome Ms. G.  She is an educational assistant that works in our room and is a gigantic help to our students!

I am planning to use this blog as more of a means for students to showcase their work and ideas.  I will also share with you exciting adventures that are happening in, and out of, our room.

I hope you're all having a great September!

Here are some pictures from our first weeks together.  #backtoschoolselfie
